3 Solid Reasons Why Your Kids Should Embrace The Entrepreneurial Mindset

by Samuel · 32 comments

Though I’ve asked about this question in the last interview I had with Alex PAPA. In case you’ve not read it, I urge you to do so. In this post I will be sharing my own view with you guys.

It looks funny with the way the economy is going these days. Where the rate of unemployment is increasing and no assurance for kids with good grades. Also it shows that there are only two kinds of people in this world and they are “THE ENTREPRENEURS” and “OTHERS”.

The 9 to 5 task is not encouraging at all, been on the 9 to 5 track is not hygienic to the soul, where you would not have much time for your wife, kids and friends. It’s just like you are trapped down. I don’t think I would encourage myself to get on the 9 to 5 track, If at all I want to be on the 9 to 5 track I will only get on the track just because I want to learn some skills then after that I fly out, I mean I will quit the job.

If you really want the best for your kid I guess you should encourage the kid to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset. Though entrepreneurship is not meant for everyone it’s meant for serious-minded people. Have seen kids that are really trying both in the offline world and in the online world. Proving that they are capable of being an entrepreneur. If other kids are embracing the entrepreneurial mindset why not give your kids the mindset? Give your kids the mindset and let them have the guts to forever give thanks to you in zillions.

Below are the reasons why your kids should embrace the entrepreneurial mindset:

They Will Serve As Good Citizens:

Am not saying that if a kid should be on the 9 to 5 track that he or she is not a good citizen, No! Don’t get me wrong. If your kid should embrace the entrepreneur mindset he or she would serve as a good citizen also the kid will not be a disgrace to mankind. Why? Being an entrepreneur will show that you really want to help the people in your country also around the globe. You might be wondering how, I will tell you.

The kid will be able to create jobs and employ people who need jobs most especially people with good grades so that they will not starve. I read an interview on Dan Schawbels Blog, which he interviewed Robert Kiyosaki the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad. In the interview, Robert Kiyosaki said that “Government can’t create jobs only entrepreneurs can” yes that’s the fact and I reason with that too. It’s only entrepreneurs that can create jobs. So if your kid should embrace the entrepreneurial mindset he or she would be able to create jobs for people who needs job also solve people’s problem by providing the masses with the solution to their problem.

An entrepreneur has a lot of advantages in this world than the non entrepreneurs, if an entrepreneur is able to break the shield to unlock the entrepreneurship door, the entrepreneur would be successful. Well for me I don’t think I will allow my kids to embrace the 9 to 5 mindset because I know it won’t help them on the long-term run. Also I don’t want my kids to call me the stupid father. My own dad gave me the entrepreneurial mindset and not the 9 to 5 mindset. Because he wants the best for me. So if you are missing out this training please I urge you to start tutoring your kids on how to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit.

Education Does Not Guarantee:

Am not saying that your kids should not go o school, education is important. Yeah, education does not guarantee if the kid would secure a good job. Even those with high school grade don’t get jobs. It hurts to see a child that has study hard in school and after graduating with good grade from school the child ended up rooming about the street. Though schools don’t teach kids on how to be a good entrepreneur no! They won’t. They will only teach your kids on how to be a good worker, I mean the 9 to 5 worker. You are the one that will teach your kids on how to be a good entrepreneur. So what am trying to say is this, if your kids do not secure a job and if the kids have the entrepreneurial mindset it will be easy for the kids to switch lanes, than a kid that is trained with 9 to 5 lifestyle.  We are in the information age and not the industrial age, things are changing. You take a look at this, what if your kid gets layed off from his or her  job what do you think will happen next? So I encourage you to give your kids the best legacy by giving him or her the entrepreneurial mindset.

They would be able to decide on their future:

When you’ve started nurturing your kids, I mean when you’ve started encouraging your kids to put on the entrepreneurial mindset from their young age, by the time they grow up and the see how the economy is, am sure they would whole heartedly embrace the entrepreneurial mindset. I mean it will be easy for them to decide on the steps to take. If you have been tutoring them from their young age and they are not grabbing what you are trying to impact into them, am sure by the time they are growing up they would grab the idea. So if you’ve not been encouraging your kids from their young age, it won’t be easy for them to admit.

Things To Do:

In other for the above listed points to work there are some certain things you should do. Like now, if you are the type of dad or mom that’s on the 9 to 5 race, you can get books for your child also let him or her attend seminars and conference so that he can learn from people who are in the game. They can visit online forums too, forums like TeenBusinessForum; This is a forum where teens with the entrepreneurial mindset come together to achieve a goal so I urge your kid to visit the forum.

They will get screwed up, yes that’s for sure because to be a successful entrepreneur is not an easy game and you should always be there to guide them whenever they get screwed up so that they would be able to rise again. So try to give your kids the entrepreneurial mindset.

Plus…they’ll learn how to think outside the box and consider viewpoints other than their own.

Been doing that now for many years; it definitely is a wise way to raise your kids!

Hi Samuel
You are leading by example Samuel. More and more young people are deciding the 9-5 is not for them. I visited a young blogger aged 12 yesterday! He had written a comment on my blog and I went over to see what he was saying on his. Was an excellent post and I just thought wow! Thanks for sharing.
BTW you get a mention in my post this week; just published.

Yeah Man,
The entrprenuer is the only one with a secured future. The irony of a 9-5 is that once you get in, a creative, entrepreneurial part of your brain “dies” so to speak.

I think entrepreneurship provides experience and wisdom far beyond years of book smarts and academics. When my seven year old told me he wanted to start a blog / charity and raise money and food for homeless people I saw a little entrepreneurial spirit budding.

Sam, my man how are you sweetie? So yes children should have that entrepreneurial mind set. Who wants to spend their lives working for someone else, having to clock in and out according to them? Break free of that and be your own boss and write your own paycheck!!

Hey Sam,

. I think every parent should teach their kids to have a business of their own. I still believe that people having their own business enjoy a better and flexible lifestyle. That is of course you don’t turn your business into a job that makes you work hard throughout your life. To mention an example blogging is hard word in the first few years, but if you are slaving and not getting anything much after that, then something is not right. It’s either you need an extra pair of hands or you seriously have to consider if blogging is for you.

Cheers!

There was a good book about this mindset called Rich Dad Poor Dad. We are taught to be ‘worker bees’ its not in our nature. You must teach your children that there are other ways to achieve success. They are more shapable the younger you start.

Hi Samuel,
I have a personal opinion that Education just make sense and experience blow up creativity on mind, So when a kid knows some extraordinary characteristics like entrepreneurial mindset that make great self confidence on their minds.

New generation kids are faster than us in these days, Some times I got great experience and education from my 2 years child…

Hi Vijay,
Going to school is just the basic and school don’t train a child about creativity. Experience is the best teacher. Sure new generation kids are ready to think outside the box and they are ready to learn.. Thanks a lot for the comment! Rock on.

Hi Samuel,
Good points. I would actually broaden the scope and teach my kids that their most powerful tool is their mind. Education is just a stepping stool, but if you don’t back it up with using your mind and thinking about what you learned and using it in creative ways, you will be stuck in a rut.

The entrepreneurial spirit isn’t just about getting away from a 9-5 but more about empowering yourself to realize that no matter what, you have the ability to be your own boss. A 9-5 isn’t always a terrible thing, but don’t compromise yourself just for some steady pay. You always have the power to make a change. That’s the true lesson there.

I totally agree – i don’t want the 9 to 5 life in any way. People build up the wrong securities in things, good grades is one of them. The day i finish school, I’m going to register a business; don’t know what it will be yet; but at the least, it will give me something to work on, aside from those 9 to 5 jobs.

Hi Samuel, Nice info…i also have read ‘Rich dad poor dad’…only Entrepreneurial mindset would eradicate the unemployment situation..imagine the no. of employers are more than the no.of employees…when it comes alive that country would be definitely a super power country..one good news is that already people started thinking beyond the 9-5 jobs…

Great article, Samuel. I completely agree with your stance on entrepreneurship. I know many people that have gotten a college degree and are working a minimum wage job because they can’t find any work in their chosen field. If they would have embraced the entrepreneurial mindset early on, they may have had a backup plan or even chosen not to go to college at all. It’s definitely a viable option to consider these days.
