How To Make Your Boss Work For You

by Samuel · 14 comments

If you are a business owner or an entrepreneur who wants to increase sales and make your business start booming, you’ve come to the right place.

I know you might be wondering which boss I’m talking about? If I may ask you, who are your boss? I’m sure most of you will be saying that you are your own boss, am I right? Since you own your business or company and you are your own boss. Well the fact is that your customers are your boss.

I’m sure you will be wondering why I said that. Customers are the people who can fire you, make your business grow and at the same time tarnish the image of your business. Without customers in the business world, there will be nothing like business.

“There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.”- Sam Walton

So if you really want to make it big in the business world and get more market share than your competitors it’s time you start making your boss work for you. Let them help you take your business to the next level. I’m sure you really want that to happen?

The next question now is, how do I make them work for me? Below are how you can make your boss work for you in order to get the best out of the business world:

  • Satisfy Their Needs

Are you able to satisfy your customers needs? You see, customers needs are always high when it comes finding a product that will satisfy them. They don’t want to care on what it will take to get it as long as it can satisfy them and it will really help add value to their life.

You must be able to give them the ultimate satisfaction by providing a product that will solve their needs. For example, a  guy who don’t know how to approach a woman in order to grab her attention would be looking for products or coaching that will help him overcome the fear of approaching a woman in order to grab a woman’s attention. If he can get the best and ultimate solution, he will be willing to pay any amount as long as it solves his problem. I hope you understand what I mean?

Every customer cherish quality over quantity, it’s only the cheap stakes customers that don’t care about the value of a product. So if you have what customers need, I mean if your products or services can solve the pain of your customers, you will get the support of your boss (customers) and they will be glad to help you out and give you their best.

  • Connect With Them

If you can’t connect with your boss (customers) then something is wrong somewhere. How do you expect to make your boss work for you when you don’t try to build relationships with them? When you fail to show that you really value their patronage?

See there’s nothing bad in hanging out with your customers. Its part of the elements that will help you build relationships with them and get the best from them.

If you are able to connect with them, it will be easy for you to get to know what they really want from you, how you can improve your business in order to take it to the next level. This is one of the tricks I’m urging you to use, because it helps.

You might be thinking if there’s need for you to do that, if I must tell you, there’s a need for you to build reputable relationships with your boss (customers) but it’s on one condition and the condition is if you want your business to succeed. I’m sure you want that to happen? Then give it a shot and start building a solid foundation for the relationship between you and your customers.

  • Be Fast In Responding

When I say that you should be fast in responding to your customers, I simply mean that you should have a great customer service that will help your customers out when they are facing any problems or they want to make a complain about any particular product or service.

One of the reasons why your boss will never love to work for you is because you don’t have a great customer service. And failure to have a great customer service shows that you don’t really care about them. Which is very bad.

Be there for them when they need you so that they can be there for you when you need them. It’s just 50-50 game. They will be happy you did and you will be glad that they work for you. So if you are really missing out in this aspect, then I think it’s time for you to focus on it because it will really help you out,

  • Word Of Mouth

The fact is that, if you are able to carry out the above listed operations things will be a lot easier, I mean customers will help you spread the word about your business. They will be happy that they found you and they will do anything for you in order to express their gratitude. But if you don’t carry out the above listed points, I don’t think your boss will work for you instead you will be working for them by keep struggling to get their attention and build your brand.

So if you have done the right thing, let your customers know that you will be glad if they can do you a favour and the favour is-  they should help you spread the word about your business. They will be glad to do it for you and they will for sure do it for you even if you don’t tell them. The way you satisfy them and your mode of services will push them to do it. I guess you know that there’s power in our mouth likewise in the customer’s mouth?

Whatever customers preach about your business will definitely yield the kind of results you want. If you’ve done the right thing then you will yield positive results but if you’ve done the wrong thing then you will yield the other result.

Carry out the operations and see if your boss won’t work for you, I bet they will surely work for you by spreading the word about your business and by so doing your business will be moving to greater heights.

Very nicely put. It is amazing how powerful the word of mouth is! This is the main source of building my business. Your customers are your best bill boards aren’t they! However, I would like to add that building relationships with everyone you interact with also helps expand your new client base. I find that even if the person I interact with doesn’t become a customer, someone they interact with may! It all comes down to being authentic, believing in what you do, and as you said – building that connection!

Sam – interesting perspective. I can tell you did some deep research on this one. Way to go man!

There is no doubt that there is no better kind of marketing than word of mouth. You can tell thousands of people how good your products or services are and perhaps 100 may take a look at what you offer and maybe 20 will buy.

However, if those 20 love your product and spread the word to 100 people, those buy, love your product and each spreads the word to another 100 people, you have an instant compounding word of mouth marketing that creates instant credibility, authority and significantly increases your chances for more sales!

That was a killer title Sam! Good one. From my experience as an insurance broker, connecting with your customer is going to bring you other customers too, through word of mouth. It will also help you knowing the needs of your customer better and respond fast. So, I would say that everything starts from running the extra mile and getting to know your clients personally. Spend time together. They will appreciate this, because no one does it. Buy them a beer or a pizza and they will give you everything – and more clients of course ;)

Delivering quality services and having a great product/content was always a good strategy. For some people it’s time consuming one, so they don’t give it a go from laziness. Thanks for the share, you reminded me to take care of my clients needs…

Need to get back to it, right now :)

Wow this was truly an inspirational read. I never saw it this way. You did burst my bubble of being so relieved that I don’t work for anyone but I guess you’re right, our customer is our boss.

Great article and definitely an attention grabbing title there. Just want to say that these days what you really need is word of mouse and not word of mouth. People are talking more with their mouse in the social media sites these days than they do with their mouths. So build the right relationships and set up the right profiles in the social media sites and then watch your “bosses” send the word of mouse out for you without any cost to you!

Excellent points. It’s very true that customers do control us in the sense that our businesses depend on them to survive. We must tailor our services/products for our customers to ensure that they keep coming back and help spread the word about us.
