Entrepreneurs- 4 Major things You Should Focus On When You are Just Starting Out

by Samuel · 39 comments

Most newbie entrepreneurs (entrepreneurs who are just starting out) don’t know what to do when they have built their business. They get confused on the next step to take.

Getting confused on the next step to take can lead you astray; some entrepreneurs would go on searching for books or videos that will tell them the next step to take. Which is not right?

As an entrepreneur, you should always know the next step to take, you don’t need to start consulting books or search the web for videos on the next step you should take.  I think you know the reason why you came into the business world? So why are you waiting for manner from above?

In this post I will be talking about the major things you should focus on when you are just starting out, and they are listed below:

Marketing:

Now that you’ve build your business, what next?  The next thing you should do is to start marketing your business. Let the world know that you are now on board and you are the one they have being waiting for.

A business with no effective marketing is a no business.  Effective marketing is needed if you really want your business to grow.

Call your team together, plan your marketing strategies and work on how you are going to dominate the business world.  I think you know that the business world is not meant for amateurs? It is only meant for people who are ready to bring something out of nothing. That’s why it is always said that the business world is not meant for everyone.

You really need to focus on marketing in order to make your business grow. Map out ideas on how you can break new ground with your marketing strategy.  Go for it and stop wasting time on things that can do you no good. Remember that “Time wait for nobody”. So what are you still waiting for?

Customer Relationship:

The next thing you should focus on is building a reputable relationship with your customers, because they are the one who will make the business a fruitful one. If customers are not patronizing you then all your effort is just being put to waste.

I guess the major reason why you are marketing your business is because you need customers to patronize you? Now, how do you retain your customers? Are you letting them go just like that, without giving them the thought to come back for more?

For you to retain your customers, you have to build a reputable relationship with them. Never try to hurt their mood, even if they do something that is not right, always try to make them feel happy and I’m sure you will never regret it. You will be glad that you have them as your customers.

Building reputable relationships with customers is as simple as ABC. You should do things that will make them feel happy and not the things that will make them feel bad. Give them your best and let them know that you’ve tried for them. So that they can always come for you whenever they need you.

Personal Branding:

Personal branding matters a lot in the business world.  If you don’t know how to build your own personal brand I guess you need to hang out with Dan Schawbel.

The way you talk, approach and the kind of reputation you want to build for yourself matters a lot in the business world. You are not a rugged entrepreneur, and you don’t need to behave like one.  Do things you know  it will help you boost your personal branding, things that will make you become acceptable by people whenever they sees you and not things that will make people reject you.

One of the major reasons why most entrepreneurs fail is that, they failed to establish their own personal brand; they don’t embrace the act of personal branding, which is very bad.

If you are just meeting people for the first time online or offline, let your personal brand speak for you so that the person you are chatting with will love to see you around and he or she will know what you stand for.

The way you communicate will determine if you have a great personal branding or not, so if you should communicate in a rough manner, I doubt, if it will help your personal branding.  I urge you to communicate with your prospect in a cool and nice manner. And make sure you focus on how to build a strong personal brand for yourself.

Networking:

As an entrepreneur, you should know how to network effectively.  Don’t be shy to network with people; people who are shy to network don’t break new grounds.

You should try to network with people who are in the game before you, so that when there’s any obstacle on your way, it will be easy for you to call on them to help you out in order to put you through on how you will overcome obstacles.

Entrepreneurs who network are always successful, and they never lack behind. When you are trying to network with people, make sure you network with people who can help you out, people who you can also help out.

Don’t network with people who can’t add any value to your life. If you notice that the person whom you are trying to network with is not adding any value to your life, try to drop the person and move on, I mean look for another person that’s willing to help you.

Embrace the idea of networking and start working on your networking skill so that you can be a great networker.

Speak Your Mind.

What are the major things you are focusing on in order to take your business to a greater height? Feel Free to comment below. Thanks a lot.

Hey Sam,

Thanks for the fantastic post!

I tottally agree with every point you made in this post. These four things are really important to a persons overall success. I’m glad you put marketing first because that is something everybody needs to lean how to do, and everyone can also learn better ways of marketing. I believe one should build personal relationships with there community also. You have to focus on building up your community.

Thanks again!

God bless,

I really agree with your point, because your community is the nearest possible prospect for your marketing.

Hey Rahal,

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I’m glad you agree with me. People have to focus on building personal relationships with your community because they obviously like the work you promote. That makes sense to me. Who better to start with then them?

Thanks again!

God bless,

Awesome post Sam!
I’ve always found that effective marketing ties in with customer relationship. If you don’t have the ability to make your customers “like” you, then when you market your product, no one will buy.
The four points you’ve listed are actually all dependent on each other, so you can’t have a business succeed if it does not focus on each of these.

Networking builds up customer relations.
No customer relations and your marketing will fail.
If you don’t have good personal branding then your marketing will go horribly wrong.

Thanks for the great post :D
Peter

Yes good post. You should also keep in mind when networking to surround yourself with positive people who are able to guide you as well as provide constructive critism to help you grow. This collaboration will help both parties to achieve their goals with ease.

This is a great post. I think out of the four, for beginner bloggers, networking is most important. Having a good network supporting your work is absolutely vital to your success online. And after all, networking is probably the best form of marketing too ;)

What’s up Sam!

Nice job you did here. I too have found that the 4 major focuses that you shared are essential in a start up. I like how you gave a simple, yet thorough breakdown of each. I’d even push it further to make mention that these 4 focuses should be a part of the plan through the entire life of a business.

Thanks for the info.
peace

Hey Jk Hustle,

I just thought I’d point out that I agree with your logic these 4 pointers could surely be applied to overall business life. People have to brand themselves sand brand themselves hard. Very important in making the brand you represent stand out.

Would you not agree?

Thanks again!

Great post Sam!

I think the common theme I see in this article is that as a newbie entrepreneur you have to be able to CHANGE your mindset!

I talk about this specifically in my post Internet Entrepreneur Connection.

You have to be willing to do something different and really grasp the power of marketing, branding but most important Networking!

They say that your wealth will be measured by those that you surround yourself with. As newbie entrepreneurs, surrounding yourself with the right people and attaining the right mindset will dictate how long you’re in business! Thanks for sharing Oni!

Very good Samuel, thanks for sharing!

Looking at the bottom, I noticed ‘Speak Your Mind’ and I assume it’s meant for us to comment, but I also feel that it could very well be one of the steps to starting out. By speaking your mind, you ensure that you aren’t imitating anyone; you are being unique. As the saying goes, “There will never be a better you, than you.”

For customer relationship, I really recommend bloggers to try CRM software. You may ask a question why use such a corporate-level problem to just manage other blogger contacts. Well, I have been using it for several months now and it helps a lot in remembering prospect customers, commentators to your blog and so on. So, you can try one like Zoho (free) and other CRMs on Internet.

Hey Sam,

Very s0und advice you got there. I think networking is a very important part of being an entrepreneur because no one can do it alone and make it big. Personal branding is a difficult thing. I think being an entrepreneur and personal branding are not mutually exclusive but are different skill sets that require a bit of experience and trial and error. It is about how you set yourself apart from the big pool of entrepreneurs out there much like blogging.

Marketing & Customer relationship go hand in hand to ensure your business is able to sell whatever it produces or services it offers.

Personal Branding and Networking are necessary for the entrepreneur in order to remain relevant in their chosen field. People have got to know what they should expect from you and your business. This helps when they want to connect with you.

Thank you for sharing!
