Entrepreneurs: Get Things Done And Have Fun.

by Samuel · 37 comments

We all know that being an entrepreneur is not an easy task, what I mean by that is that entrepreneurs are always busy. They don’t usually have much time to spend with their family and friends. But this does happen mostly to the entrepreneurs who are just starting out, I mean entrepreneurs who are running a startup from the scratch.

Every entrepreneur wants to become successful; no one wants to eat the crumbs in the entrepreneurship world. That’s why they are doing their possible best to work smart in order to get to the top.

Entrepreneurs need to work smart in order to be free like a bird, in order to have time for other things in their life’s. It’s not until you start working like a Ferrari before you can hit the success button. What I’m trying to say is that, entrepreneurs should learn to work smart, so that you can be free, have time for your personal life and all that. In order for you to work smart, below are tips you should follow:

Have A To Do List:

I do hear about this from smart entrepreneurs but I never put it into practice, until recently I started practicing it and I have being able to do things on a fast track. There’s nothing good than writing what you are going to do the next morning down tonight. Have a to do list on things you are going to do the next morning.

Don’t let the list to be that long; you can make a list of at least five important things you are going to do the next morning. Let each of them have their own priority, I mean the thing that is very important to you should be at the first on the list, follow by the second operation you would be carrying out. If you are able to that, there will be improvement in your life. It will be easy for you to carry out your operation without thinking of what to do.

So always write down the operation you are going to carry out the next morning before going to bed, so as not to worry about things that need to be done the next day. Because if you don’t do this, it won’t be easy for you to start your day with good and happy mood because you will be confused on what to do and where to start from.

Focus On Your Plan:

I’m glad you’ve keep to your to do list but are you focusing on them? There are a lot of distractions here and there, so in order to get rid of those distractions you have to stay focused.

Focus on things you are doing and don’t let any external body disturb you. If you are carrying out the first operation on the list, make sure you put all your mind in it 100% and don’t worry about the second plan, by the time you are done with the first plan, you can now go ahead and check your list to see the next operation you are going to carry out. Don’t carry out two operations at a time. Learn to do one thing at a time so that you can concentrate on it in order to yield good results.

If you don’t want all your effort to be in vain, focus on things that are very important and don’t get distracted. It’s easy to get distracted and it’s also easy to stay focused, the choice is yours to choose which one you would love to stick to.

Plan Your Time:

On each operation you are going to carry out, always make sure you set time for each of them, so that you won’t lose control. Having proper timings on things that should be done will boost up your spirit.

Spend more time on things that are important and don’t waste time on things that are not important. Remember, “Time wait for nobody”. Most entrepreneurs don’t love the idea of timing themselves, they believe it’s of no use but if you can give it a try, you will be glad you did.

I do waste time surfing the web and at the end of the day, I get mad at myself but now that I work with time, I hardly spend much time online, so whenever I get online, any operation I’m going to carry out has its own time. So embrace that idea.

Go Have Fun:

You should always create time for yourself to have fun. Like they say “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy” which is true.

Always try to go outings like play outdoor games, hang out with friends etc. Taking part in those activities does help increase your mental well-being. You don’t just glue yourself to the PC all the time or working all the time. Things won’t work fine if you choose to live that way, Always rock yourself besides life is too short and you only have one life to live, so go out there and start STUNTING. :D

Speak Your Mind!

Do you think entrepreneurs are caged birds? And share with us how you spend your time. Feel free to comment below. Thanks so much.

The ‘have fun’ part – so true….because if you’re hating it, you simply will not keep to the path of success. Great article!

I think the number one benefits for one to be an entrepreneur is to own their own time. With that being said, the best should be made of that time. Get out and enjoy the liberty; the freedom.
Personally, I spend a lot of time with my family. We do a lot of things…and I’m fortunate to have the means (financially and time wise) to make it happen.

Sam

We will all suffer from 1 of 2 pains in life! The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Those are words from my coach and mentor Mr. Jim Rohn.

I love this topic because its so true and you expressed your thoughts very well. I’ll tell you what I do everyday before I get to work. I get my note pad (always keep this thing handy) and I write down 5 things that I will get accomplished. That can include anything form writing a blog post to doing some research and even prospecting and returning phone calls.

This falls directly in line with your first tip. If I don’t write down what I have committed to get accomplished in that day not only do I have nothing to measure results against but it is also very easy to start feeling like I have an endless amount of work to do and feel like I am getting no where. This feelings result in procrastination and then lead to resentment.

As you can employing the use of a To-Do list is critical in my point of view.

Hey Sam,

Thanks for sharing this with us!

You had the right mindset for success my friend. The key is to work hard and smart in the beginning to create a future for yourself where you still have to work mar, but not so hard anymore.

This is why I go 100 percent day in and day out. I don’t plan on taking a break till I get to where I want to be and until then I’ll keep moving in that direction. Every entrepreneur has to keep their motivation sky high, because there are going to be road blocks.

When tomes get stressing always try to have fun, or remember what your doing is supposed to be fun.

Thanks again!

God bless,

It’s all about balancing it all out. If you don’t have fun, it’ll be almost impossible to get out of each bed each morning. If you don’t plan your day, you won’t get anything done.

Thanks for sharing Samuel :-)

Having fun is SO SO SO important. I think most entrepreneurs desire some level of freedom…that is usually one of the main motivations for becoming an entrepreneur. Especially internet entrepreneurs!

If you don’t leave time for yourself then what’s the point? If you quit a 9-5 to pursue your own business but now work 8-7, are you really winning?

Hi Eugene,
Haha, I don’t think so. But one thing you should know is that if you are an entrepreneur who is just starting out, you might be working all the time. As times goes on, you will stick to the plan. I hope you understand what I’m saying? Thanks so much bro.

Hi Samuel,

You have mentioned great points in this post. As far your Q is concerned, It totally depends how an entrepreneur deal & manage his business. If you’re really taking stress because of your business then you’re a caged bird, if you’re enjoying your work then it’s something else.

Hi Samuel

It is so easy to get caught up and then a few hours go by and it’s just been getting involved in social media and not getting the tasks done!

I like the idea of writing 5 things down for the day. That is truly being laser targeted Samuel. I have a “to do” list but not as focused as this idea. Really helpful tips. Thanks.

I agree about having some fun. Can get so involved with my blog; got to stop and take time to smell the lavenders ;-)

I completely agree with you in this post Samuel. Entrepreneurs must work smart to not only have time for other things but to also not stress themselves out.

I liked your advice for planning your time. Take care of the important tasks first and try to avoid wasting a lot of time on things that are not that important. Thanks for sharing your insights.

Great going here samuel! It is so true how entrepreneurs can overwork themselves and neglect to take care of the lighter side of life. All does not have to be so serious, i like to think of what i do as something pleasant and not a total burden

Sam: Great article and advice. I think you really do need to have a plan and make certain that you are always being disciplined and following it. As you mentioned, it is so easy to get caught up in distractions, but I think if you are aware and conscious of where you are going and what you need to do, you are less apt to get distracted. I thought the advice to plan out what you will accomplish the night before was great advice. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve always made a focus on creating a to do list, simply because i forget to easy how long i should be focusing on one project. To do lists keep you on task (as long as you stick to them)

Working smart is the name of the game. It helps to eliminate those that doesn’t help you. In addition, I normally add a mindmap when planning (e.g. Tony Buzan’s). Mindmaps help me see the bigger picture, identify visually the tasks I need to perform, and see the relationships/dependencies of each task.

I tell you what Samuel, I personally could not imagine life without the freedoms that come with being your own boss. If I want to take the day off, I do. If I want to bring one of my kids with me to work, I do. If I just want to stay home and work, I do. Is the life of an entrepreneur at times stressful and a roller-coaster ride? Yes, but that’s also what makes it all worth it.

Great stuff Samuel. :-)

Hey Sam,

I totally agree that if you don’t enjoy doing what you are doing and if you don’t take some time off you will lose interest and get tired of what you’re doing. WE all need to rest and have a break from work.

Samuel, you hit the nail on the head with this post! Without any of these items (especially the having fun part), there’s no reason to even become an entrepreneur!

I’ve been working hard to plan my time appropriately since I still work a full time job. You have to really be creative with time when juggling work, side jobs, families, etc.!

Sammy, which one? How things?

This is an insightful post, my guy. These lessons are ones that I didn’t learn for quite a while.

Creating a to-do list is a very useful start to being productive.
But you added two distinctions that take a to-do list from another source of stress and lack of focus… to a focusing tool.

1: The list should be short.
2: The list should be prioritized.

Those two small points transform a to-do list to a powerful tool indeed!
This makes you EFFECTIVE. (Effective meaning “working on the most important items, each day.)

Having a time limit for each item then makes you EFFICIENT. Deadlines force people to complete work.

But being EFFECTIVE is more important than being EFFICIENT.

Work on the right things first.
Then, on those things, get more and more efficient.

Great article!
