Top 5 Reasons Your Prosperous Business Becomes a Pain

by Samuel · 16 comments

Are you fed up with your business? Are you thinking of quitting your business? The good thing about business is that, before starting a business you will be happy that you want to transition from a cooperate ladder to the entrepreneurial lifestyle and you will be proud that you own a business. But the bad thing about it is, when your business is now like a sledge hammer that’s being place on your neck.

I was reading an article from Michael Gerber, the author of the E-myth. In his article, he talked about why some people who started their business with joy start feeling bad about the business and can’t cope anymore. In this post I will be sharing my own view with you.

I know you must have heard entrepreneurs who talked about their wins in the business world and their story pulls your legs. And you were like, it’s about time you start your own business. Glory be to God, you started the business. Taking that action means success because most people do day-dream of building a great business empire but they never take action.

Like I said earlier, you’ve started the business, but as times goes on your prosperous business is now becoming a pain. And you are complaining that, why is it happening to you? I’m sure the next thing that will be in your mind is “Why did I (you) started the business in the first place?”

Now, you will be thinking that all the materials you’ve bought and seminars you’ve attended before starting the business are crap and they only share the good things about the business world (I mean their Success) and they never tell you the pros. But you should know that nothing good comes easy. Only few will tell you the fact.

Reasons Why Your Prosperous Business Becomes A Pain:

Your Team:

When building your team, your team members are proving to you that they worth to be part of your project, in order to break new grounds together. But as times goes on, you started seeing some changes in them. They are not doing the right thing at the right time, and all they are after is the money and not how the business will succeed.

This is very bad. If I may ask you, are your team members working from different agendas? I mean do they posses the skills you are lacking? You need to check on this. Building the perfect team for your business might be hard, but if you know what you need, I mean the type of people you want to be part of your team, it will be easier. We all know that in the business world, “individual don’t win teams do”. So to break new ground, a good team is needed. Your team members must be ready to lift you up and know what to do at the right time in order to move the business forward.

So I’m urging you to check on your team members, know the role every one of them is playing. And if you see that anyone of them is playing the same role, try to find a solution to that problem. And make sure people who are part of your team are ready to lift you up.

You Think Negatively:

You’ve started your business, but sales are not coming in the way you expected, and you think the best thing to do is to forget about the business world and have the believe that you can never make it in the business world?

You don’t expect overnight success just like that and sales cannot be pumping in just like that, you have to be patient. Instead of you to think positively, you start thinking negatively. How will you succeed in life if you love thinking negatively? I’m sure success won’t come to meet a person who thinks negatively. When you think positively, things will be easier. You won’t get fed up and with your faith, you will move mountains.

Most people come into the business world just because of the money. Yet they pretend as if they came into the business world in order to serve the people by finding a solution to people’s problem. Why I said this is that, people who came into the business world because of money are the people who are fond of thinking negatively. They expect everything to be fast.  So that they can call it an overnight success.

If you want your business to become the relieving business, then you have to think positively and not negatively.

Delegate:

You never embrace the art of delegation. You are the person who will drive the company buses, attend to customers, clean the store etc. When will you focus on your strengths and outsource for the things you can’t do?

If you believe that you alone can do everything and you don’t want anybody to help you with anything, I’m sure you will get burnout in no time. Art of delegating is one thing you should embrace. If you want to focus more on your strengths you must delegate.

Successful business owners does delegate, they know how helpful the art of delegation is. So to make your journey in the business world become more exciting, you must delegate.

Personal Branding:

How on earth do you want your journey in the business world to be a smooth one when you haven’t establish a great personal brand for yourself?

If you don’t establish a great personal brand, nobody would love to work with you. And if people should fail to work with you, you will be feeling disgusted. And you will be blaming yourself for starting a business.

If you want to get accepted by people, you must build a great personal brand for yourself. The way you approach customers and talk to them matters a lot. Because they are part of the things people will use to evaluate you. Build a great personal brand for yourself in order to get accepted by people and make your journey in the business world a sweet and a smooth one.

You Focus On Problem:

How will you cure your business pain when you keep focusing on the problem instead of solution? When something happens to your business, you just have to focus on how you will turn the problem into a solution.

Wasting your time on the problem won’t help you at all. It will bring about more pain to you. It’s about time you need to get up and start focusing on the solution and not the problem in order to get things done. When you keep to this act, you will never regret for doing that and your business will be moving on a fast rate. :)

Hey Sam,

That’s for the phenomenal article!

You have did it again my homie with tha master plan! Naw but, you really make some excellent points here, and I always enjoy your mindset, because you are far wiser than your years! The mindset you have comes to you so naturally and I can see that for miles upon miles away and that’s incredible. ( :

I think you would be a valuable player on any team, because you would add value to the team and wouldn’t just be a nobody waiting for everybody else to bring the team’s brand up amongst the ranks. When you are on a team everyone has to be go getters. Everyone has to want to out work the other team members that way everyone can build off each others energy! A mindset like our is only bound for greatness!

Keep up the outstanding work!

Thanks again!

God bless,
William Veasley

I’ve read The E-Myth Revisited, and I can relate to a lot of you’re saying Samuel. The idea of having your own business is to escape being told what to do, to do your own thing. And the only way you can do that is by delegating your work so you don’t crush yourself. With a sledgehammer as you put it.

Where did you find that article btw? I must look it up :-)

Sam – what’s up man? You know, I’ve never read E-Myth but it’s definitely on my to read list.

I really like your points. Particularly in the power of your brand and in focus. I think that in most cases people are attracted to others in which they see a bit of themselves in. People should be able to quickly know what you’re about simply by looking at your brand.

As for focus, when I first started my entrepreneurial career back in late 2008, I have to admit that I was one of those that shifted a lot of my focus on everything that was going wrong, better yet, everything that was not happening. I started a business with a partner and we were putting in long hours lots of time and we were simply not getting the results we were looking for. We often contemplated on whether r not we were making the right decision by becoming entrepreneurs.

That business venture had lots of lessons learned but one thing I did take deeply into heart was to not focus on what was going wrong and to focus on what we were actually accomplishing no matter how small the accomplishments. I learned to focus on things like taking pride in being an entrepreneur and not following the heard. I learned to focus on the things that mattered. Everything else in between was just that… in between… it didn’t matter!

Great post. I think the key point is to focus on the solution, not the problem. In a lot of cases people see business as the solution to the problem of working for somebody else. Why give up that line of thinking? You have to continue on with it once your business is up and running.

Spot on Samuel!

I really like the way you gave both the aspects – the good and the bad about entrepreneurial lifestyle just like it happens in reality!

You are dead on about why business becomes a pain. Focusing on the problem to find the solution is a must. And I don’t know why still a shit load of people don’t get the brand concept in their head (O:

Awesome stuff bro! really enjoyed this one.

Hi Sam, your article is well-organized. I like all the things you pointed out. I have few things in my personality that need improvement and a couple of them are “I don’t know how to delegate and I focus on the problem. ” I am not yet into a business this article gives me a good head start.

Delegation is an art I am learning. I believe without it you don’t stand any chances of getting the business in the auto mode, where it keeps running without you. So, to me learning how to delegate the whole business is worth pursuing.

What’s up, Samuel:

True indeed, true indeed. I built and ran social networking site from 1999 to 2007. 30,000 members at its peak. An annual cruise to the Caribbean. Even a sporting event that I pitched to Disney, related to the site. There was so much going on.

But I had built everything myself. And I didn’t know about outsourcing. So I burned out. I learned a big lesson… and now do a lot of outsourcing, through sites like oDesk.com and Guru.com.

And of course, I love that you included personal branding. :) I wrote an entire eBook about it, and teaching people how to do personal branding is my focus for the year. A lot of people really need help turning what makes them different into a business advantage.

Nice post!
